10 web design rules to follow.

Designing impactful websites is much more than creating beautiful layouts; there is also a long process of conceptualization. In this article, we are going to share 10 rules to follow when designing a website.

  1. Impact your audience

You have only one shot to cause an impression: don’t miss it! Your site is your brand cover letter, this means designers spend lots of hours thinking about the structure, creative elements, call-to-actions and content to reach the targets and communicate your values.

  1. Optimize your website

This means your site has to be responsive. Layouts, images, paragraphs, and calls-to-action have to be prepared to be read in all devices, big or small screens. It’s crucial to pay attention when designing as we are mainly mobile users today, make sure your site loads quickly on any device.

  1. Follow the “F” principle

When we scan the information on a website, its common to navigate in what we call an F-shaped pattern. This means we first read the headings by the top of the page, and then scan down the left side at any numbers, bullet points or sidebars. Create clear, attractive headers and double-check the elements that are essential.

  1. Simple yet significant

If it’s simple, it will catch the users attention! Choose a user-friendly font like Arial or Helvetica. Don’t write the Bible; you want to be memorable! Don’t overcharge with information, instead, try to be concise and create a structure, if you’re brief you’ll be effective.

  1. User-friendly

A website has to be easy and intuitive, as functional and simple as possible to quickly communicate and sell. Messages have to be clear and menus have to be easy to reach and navigate.

  1. Connect with your user

Keep your audience in mind, what they look like, what they want and don’t want, what are their needs. Ask yourself: what your brand can bring to them? In the fashion industry, luxury market websites are conceptual and inspirational to create an experience with the user offering valuable content.

  1. White is the answer

A design can be effective in being minimalistic. Think about it. White space also called blank or negative space is the empty areas in your site needed to create this balance between images, texts, and icons. Using negative space draws the user’s attention to the most important content and increases text readability.

  1. Create storytelling

Words can be moving and relevant, try to write a heading to engage your community. We usually use the header to persuade our customers with a question, a message or an attractive picture. Don’t forget to communicate with the tone and language of your clients.

  1. Choose the right colours

Be creative, the colour palettes you use will determine the look & feel of your site. Using colours effectively can be a great way to achieve beautiful, eye-catching designs. Don’t be afraid to experiment, colours evoke feelings and emotions!

  1. The importance of call-to-actions

Buttons and Call-to-action play an indispensable role in webpage design. You have to be clever and creative to catch the user’s eye!
